The Devonshire/Gordon Ramsey's Restaurant Review

Ok right, i decided to finally go out last night and see what all the fuss was about regarding Gordon Ramsey's restaurant 'The Devonshire' in Chiswick London W4. So i've got ready all glammed up expecting it to be somewhat of a posh ish restaurant.

So i'm walking down Devonshire street with a friend and realise that the further we walk the nearer we are approaching a council estate. We're both thinking surely we've got the wrong street the restaurant can't be here. To our dismay it is. We walk into the restaurant and quickly realise that it resembles a pub. Think of a grotty pub situated in the Lake District.
The bar looks untidy and the staff weren't wearing what i'd class as a uniform considering the manager was wearing grey shorts, with tights and knee high boots!

So we sit down a little bit disappointed already and we order a glass of champagne which was really nice, then we order our meals, the lady that served us was very nice. I ordered the chickens liver starter that stated it came on toast. The starters came out rather swiftly. There was no toast in site but there was chickens liver on top of soggy bread. The liver was luke warm and it tasted as though the chef had poured over the top a spicy sweet and sour from the jar sauce. It was awful i had to send it back, it was far too spicy. The waitress confirmed that most people that order that agree with what i had said! So why has this not been rectified?

My main meal was lamb it came nicely carved in 4 pieces. The lamb was cold and it was so chewy i had to spit most of it out as i struggled digesting it. The red wine sauce was over powering too. The side order of cauliflower cheese was pretty standard i think M&S' beat it by a mile. So i sent this back too. When it came to the bill as i was still feeling hungry, the manager advised me that i would not be charged for any of the food.

Ok this is fair enough but i can't seem to get to grips with the fact that Gordon himself goes round other restaurants telling them how shite their food is. Surely if you are going to criticise others for this then yours better be bloody good. I personally would NEVER ever eat there and would not wish a friend of mine to do so either.

I then later met up with a few friends for a few more glasses of champagne at another restaurant and they too agreed that the food was crap and that it is all pre made like a harvester; they'd never eat there again either. This does not do any favours for the egotistic Gordon and his macho no nonsense approach to food that isn't fresh. The only thing i rated was the champagne but they never made it.

Hope you guys find this useful.
